Back to Basis: Choosing a Domain Name
When choosing your domain name, it is important to take time deciding on the most suitable name for your website. Your domain name is a key part of your site, it will give you an overall brand image. It is worth investing time into researching your name, who else has a similar name? How search engine friendly is your domain names keyword? Do you want your name to be a brand or do you want it to represent your service or products?
Consider these points when choosing your domain name:
The length of the domain name: Try not to go overboard with the length of your domain. People need to be able to remember your website and easily be able to search for it. Also try to avoid complicated spellings, unless you intend to also register common miss- spellings of the same domain in order to capture any customers who may get it incorrect.
Think carefully about your keywords: If you plan to sell charm bracelets for example, but your company is called ‘XYZ” consider registering not only your company name but also a keyword rich domain name containing the word charm bracelet. This could help you with your campaigns relevancy in the future.
Potential Trademark Issues: So you find the perfect domain name, that seems very inexpensive. Make sure you check out some other versions of the same domain. If every other extension is registered, check if they all belong to the same owner to ensure you won’t face any trademark issues.
