As of 1st May, .uk domain registration is changing.
You will then be able too register any .uk domain for a period of 1-10 years instead of the current maximum of 2 years.
This will provide greater flexibility and control over your .uk domain names.
Smart Internet Foundation has recently completed an application for .ДЕТИ (.children). The application was submitted to ICANN within the New Top Level Domain Name application process.
The Russian government officials want to create a domain extension specifically targeted to younger Internet users.

As a sneak insight into some of the applications submitted to ICANN for the new top level domain names, we’ve just read that Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu Limited (DTTL) have announced their application to register “.deloitte”.
Deloitte (DTTL) themselves provide audit, tax, consulting and financial advisory services to public and private clients.
As stated in the company’s press release the reasons behind the top level domain name application are:
“Adopting a ‘.deloitte’ TLD can help to protect as well as enhance the Deloitte brand,” said Larry Quinlan, Global Chief Information Officer, DTTL. “With the rollout of the TLD, Deloitte member firms will continue as industry leaders in providing clients and people with world-class IT security.”
Tracey Edwards, Global Chief Knowledge Officer, DTTL commented: “The safeguarding of corporate intellectual property is a top priority for DTTL and its member firms, and the ‘.deloitte’ TLD will further reinforce the safety of Deloitte member firms’ intellectual property, as well as the exchange of information among their people and their clients.”
It remains to see just how many other brands share the same views with regards to the new TLDs and whether they will also seek to maximise on the potential benefits of apply for their own brand.
The domain name registry responsible for the .ie domain name have reported that new .ie domain registrations for the first three months of 2012, totaling 9,398.
Registrations have grown steadily over January, Feburary and March and the figure for Q1 represents a 12.2% increase on the number of new registrations.
The rise if a good sign for Irish businesses and the number of registered .ie domain names now stands at 177,720
